Smart digital reading on the high seas:
Media Carrier’s ePaper library now available on the new Hapag-Llyod Cruises expedition ships HANSEATIC nature and HANSEATIC inspiration

Munich, 11 March 2020 – Media Carrier has added a new prestigious name from the tourism sector to its client list: The Munich-based expert for digital content will be providing the cruise operator Hapag-Lloyd Cruises with a top selection of international digital newspaper and magazine editions for its new expedition ships HANSEATIC nature and HANSEATIC inspiration. The comprehensive range of media will keep passengers up to date with everything happening onshore and at home. The renowned cruise operator joins numerous airlines, including Lufthansa Group, and international hotel chains such as Hyatt and Sofitel that are also using Media Carrier’s world-class digital service offering.

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has chosen 56 German, French and English titles from Germany, Switzerland, the UK and USA from a selection of over 1,500 digital publications that Media Carrier can offer to its clients. The selected newspapers and magazines will be delivered via satellite to the server of the new expedition ships, on a daily basis. Passengers can use their own mobile devices or devices that are provided for hire in each suite to download their favourite publication and read them in pdf format.

Reading newspapers and magazines in a digital format helps to considerably reduce paper consumption in the long run. High paper usage plays a major role in deforestation which is harmful to the environment and thus responsible for climate change. Media Carrier, a subsidiary of the media logistics company MELO Group, specialises in the marketing and distribution of digital content and offers ideal solutions for every smart mobile usage requirement.

"We are delighted about our cooperation with Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. With this major cruise operator our client portfolio of top tourism companies now also covers the cruise sector," says Media Carrier managing director Philipp J. Jacke. "More and more clients in the travel and tourism industry realise that digital content provides added value to their guests and passengers. The decision for our modern, environmentally-friendly service is not least driven by the sustainability factor that gives digital content the edge over print publication."

Digital publications have clear advantages: No matter how many people want to read a magazine at the same time, digital editions are never out of stock, always available and always up to date, be it regional, national or international editions. The numbers also show that the use of digital editions has significant environmental advantages: Lufthansa has provided its passengers with Media Carrier’s digital content service since 2014 and has so far been able to save 7,147 tonnes of paper.
